Developer Policy

This Developer Policy ("Developer Policy", "Policy", "this policy", or "the policy") describes the responsibilities and sets the terms for developer access to the content, data, metadata, application programming interfaces, software development kits, sample code, command line tools, developer tools and other related documentation and materials made available by Distal Labs LLC ("Fedified", "Yirpi", "Distal Labs", "we", "us", "our", or "ours") including, without limitation, through our websites (collectively, "Services"). Throughout this document, "developer", "you" and "your" refers to the individual, company or legal entity that you represent, and the entity or entities to which you furnish services or work products that were developed, entirely or in part, with data, assistance, knowledge or insights derived from access to our Services. These terms, together with our API Terms of Service, Acceptable Use Policy and Privacy Policy form a binding "Contract" between you and us. Please read these documents carefully.

If, at our sole discretion and judgment, we believe a violation of the Contract is deliberate, repeated or presents a risk of harm to you, other users, our Services, or any third parties, we may suspend or permanently terminate your access to our Services without notice.

If you do not accept these terms or if you lack authority or capacity to be a party to this Contract, then you are not authorized to use our Services. By using our Services, you agree to be bound by the terms of this Contract.

Why we're here and what we do

We believe that the future of democracy depends on our collective ability to protect the integrity of online discourse. Our purpose is to advance social justice. Our goal is to contribute to a future where health, education, and economic opportunity is equally accessible to all. Every day, we make progress toward our vision of the future by making it easier for everyday people to access well-moderated social media platforms, and by creating safe spaces for marginalized communities within those platforms.

We know that software, scripts, extensions, websites, products and services (collectively, "Applications", "Application", "App", or "Apps") that leverage our Services are critical to achieving our goals, and we relish the opportunity to empower Application developers to do their best work.

How we do it

To ensure that the developers whose work we support are aligned with our values and goals, we require all Application developers, including you, to comply with the following terms and conditions.

  • Privacy and Security: We take privacy and security very seriously, and expect Application developers to do the same. As such:

    • your devices, network, and server hardware must be properly configured to securely operate your Application and to protect any personal information that you collect from end-users;
    • you must honor all end-user requests for deletion, to the extent permitted by law;
    • notify us immediately and your users in a timely manner in the event of a known or suspected data or security breach; and
    • you are prohibited from:
      • combining data from our Services with data gathered from other sources for any purposes unrelated to the use of the Application;
      • accessing data from our Services for surveillance purposes;
      • allowing impersonation of users or otherwise allowing for false representations within an Application;

  • Accessibility, Diversity and Inclusion: Every Application must be accessible and welcoming. To this end, Developers are prohibited from:

    • using our Services to build Applications that contain, offer, promote, or amplify hateful or discriminatory content;
    • using our Services to support, enhance, or supplement the functionality of products or services that contain, offer, promote, or amplify hateful or discriminatory content; or
    • harassing, stalking, intimidating or threatening us, our staff, or any third-party.

  • Intellectual property and business: In using our APIs and Services, you must agree to respect our interests as we respect yours. As such, Applications and developers are prohibited from:

    • circumventing access controls;
    • using access to our Services to replicate or compete with core products or services offered by us;
    • using Services to build contact lists or marketing campaigns or engage in targeted advertising or to send unsolicited messages;
    • advertising, including display ads, within any component of your Application that relies on data provided by us or that also displays our logo, brand, trademark, or other intellectual property;
    • implying an endorsement, certification, affiliation or partnership with us unless you have explicit permission from us to do so;
    • sub-licensing, distributing, reselling, leasing, transfering, or otherwise allowing access to our Services to a third-party;
    • directly or indirectly violating the law; or
    • infringing on intellectual property rights of any third party.

At our request, Application developers must furnish proof of their compliance with this policy within 10 business days. Violations of this policy constitute a breach of the Contract, and we will take legal action, or any other action deemed necessary by us, to remedy the situation and address any damages. If you violate this policy we may or may not provide notice before taking action.
